Our CSA is in its second week and folks are already coming up with great ideas and recipes for those, as I call them, “weird” vegetables. Swiss chard? Bok Choy? What the heck? Daneen and her posse at work came up with some great and inventive ideas. Check this out – – – –
Last week, when we picked up the CSA bag, we discovered some heretofore uncooked items…Bok Choy and Chard.
As there was enough for a couple of meals, we opted to have it all at the office! Repeated phrases of “what is THAT?” and “How to you prepare that?” rang through our galley.
What to do!?
“Hello, Internet? What can I make with THIS?”
http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/swiss_chard/ was our first try…
We had olive oil…we have chard, but no red pepper flakes, no garlic, and of course, cheese is always good added to everything, but we’d used the last bit of Parmigiano Reggiano!
John’s Barbershop to the rescue!!
I ran next door and sure enough, that pizza eatin’ crew had tons of packets of red pepper flakes and parmesan cheese from Papa John’s!
Mother of Invention strikes again!
And we used a little Garlic Cheese Sprinkle to add the Garlic aspect. It was…delicious!
Day two, we sautéed the asparagus with the red pepper and garlic substitute before we added the chard. Doubly good!
Next time, however, we’ll have the real stuff on hand.
And the next chard we get, I’m making this: http://www.marthastewart.com/355600/swiss-chard-pie?czone=f¢er=276955&gallery=274967&slide=355600 It looks beautiful and you can FREEZE It and bring it out for company!
